week three

This week, you'll hear the story of the wise men and the significance of the gifts they brought to Jesus as we invite you to worship God.

  • THE BIG IDEA: On the first Christmas, the wise men gave their worship.
  • THE BIBLE: Matthew 2:1-7, 2:11-12, 5:35-40; Psalm 150:1-6

HOW WILL YOU WORSHIP?

So what does this look like for you? This Christmas, how can you give Jesus your worship?

Print and cut the handouts provided below. Play the song “We Three Kings,” by 116 (featuring Paul Russell, Lecrae & Abe Parker). During the song, we encourage you to pray, write, and reflect on how you can give Jesus their worship.

Consider these questions

What's your most controversial Christmas opinion?

What's one thing you love about Christmas you wish you could experience all year long?

When it's not Christmas time, how often do you think about the birth of Jesus? Why do you think that is?

Why do you think it's important for us to hear and understand the wise men's role in the Christmas story?

Since we know so little about the wise men, what do you still wonder about them?

What did the wise men's gifts symbolize? If you could have given Jesus a symbolic gift of your own, what would you have given Him?

Read Matthew 25:35-40.
  • 35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’
  • 37 “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’
  • 40 “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’ (Matthew 25:35-40 NIV)

What does Jesus ask us to do here? How can doing what He asks be an act of worship?

What are some of the ways you've worshiped God recently?

This Christmas, what's one way you plan to worship Jesus with your words? What about with your actions?

How do you think God might be calling you to continue worshiping even after Christmas is over?
